Sewing machine functions briefly explained

All the important controls are in clear view on the baby lock Sashiko. Use the dial on the top to set the desired foot pressure. You can easily find the default setting using the markings. If you are sewing or quilting with thicker materials or using a fleece, simply change the foot height using the adjusting wheel on the side of the machine head. This determines whether the foot rests firmly on the fabric or whether it should make a bouncing movement when sewing, thus preventing puckering in front of the foot. Use the button next to the LED lights to set needle up or down. The LED lamps indicate which setting has been selected. You can change the needle position at any time at the touch of a button. Another highlight of the baby lock Sashiko is that it uses the LED lights to show you whether the machine is in the bobbin changing position or not.

The baby lock Sashiko sews with a single thread, which threads and unthreads itself to create a stitch then a gap. It has a special needle with an open eye which is opened and closed by the built in latch. This fantastic technique makes it possible to imitate a hand stitch. The thread in the bobbin is caught every second stitch with the help of this ingenious system and the stitch is formed. The attached thread feeder then places the thread in the corresponding stitch.

Great designs are created with the baby lock Sashiko without the need for nylon thread or disguising the stitches. You decide whether you want a small stitch or a longer one. The length and spacing of the stitches can be infinitely varied between 2 mm and 5 mm. If you want it to look even more like you have sewn by hand, simply adjust the settings while sewing. You can achieve beautiful effects with this method, particularly if you have used some of the traditional Japanese designs!

The stitch length and the gap between the stitches can be easily adjusted using two levers on the front of the machine. They allow you to adjust the stitch length and the distance between the stitches continuously from 2 mm to 5 mm.
The unique look of the stitch pattern is achieved by varying the settings – even while sewing. This is how quickly and easily you can create a unique hand stitch pattern.

No more searching for your Sashiko accessories! In the practical accessory compartment on the left-hand side of the machine, all important utensils are stowed away and always ready to hand. Among other things, you will find:

  • Tweezers
  • needles
  • Small screwdriver for needle screw
  • Large screwdriver
  • Small brush for cleaning the machine
  • additional needle glide blades
  • thread disc

A large work surface and a well-lit sewing area help you to work on large sewing projects. If you are using thicker material or a thicker batting for your quilt, you can easily raise the presser foot. A thread winder and a built-in thread cutter round off the Sashiko’s features.
