The advantages of a Cover Stitch machine

The entire sewing project often stands or falls with the stitch reliability of a cover stitch machine, as this finishing seam is often the last step before completion. Known for their reliability, our coverstitch machines are not only perfect for finishing seams. baby lock sewing machines also invite you to experiment with decorative threads in the looper and thus refine even the simplest fabrics with decorative stitches. Add even more individuality to your garment by using the reverse side of the cover stitches in combination with effective threads. Supplemented by an extensive range of accessories, baby lock cover stitch machines are a real professional tool. Threading or adjusting the machines is quick and easy, they sew all fabrics that are placed under them and even thick areas such as seam intersections or similar are sewn without any problems. So the joy of sewing is part of baby lock right from the start.

With a baby lock cover stitch machine, the range of sewing options is raised to professional level. Especially for stretchy materials, most conventional finishing seams are only ‘plan B’, as the stitch is often not elastic enough (e.g. sewing machine seams with a twin needle). Even an overlock machine with a rolled, satin or flatlock stitch does not always provide the right finishing seam. This is where the coverstitch machine comes into play. As an elasticated connecting stitch or final edging, the coverstitch is always the stitch of choice when sewing together knitted pieces, the classic hem of a jersey garment or when binding open edges with a strip of fabric.

Ideally, the cover stitch can keep up with industrially produced items in terms of resilience, elasticity and appearance. Open hem edges on tops, sleeves or trouser legs are folded over (i.e. covered) at the end of all sewing work, sewn in place and finished on the covered side with a double or triple cover stitch. On the top side, the stitch is like a topstitch (double or triple side by side). The underside is similar to an overlock stitch, as the looper thread is looped around the needle threads. This ensures elasticity. The coverstitch machine also forms an elastic joining or decorative stitch with just one needle: the chain stitch. Here, the upper side resembles a topstitch, while the lower side shows loops strung together.

Coverstitches are far too beautiful to live a rather inconspicuous existence solely as a functional finishing stitch. Our repertoire would be unthinkable without them as a decorative element. Discovering the decorative qualities of a cover stitch does not require much effort apart from a look at the back of the stitch, fancy threads and imagination. If the underside of the stitch is to be used as decoration, simply thread decorative thread into the looper and sew on the wrong side of the fabric. As a decorative stitch is not subject to any special requirements, it can be placed wherever it is shown to advantage. Woven fabrics are often particularly suitable for this, as elasticity plays a subordinate role. You can also let off steam with the threads. Thick or extra-thick textured threads, colour gradient threads, metallic threads or shiny threads – whatever you like and fits through the looper is allowed. With your coverstitch machine from baby lock, you can conjure up wonderful seams and the perfect finish for all your sewing projects.

Professional hem finishes or decorative stitches with eye-catching decorative threads are not the only possibilities offered by our baby lock cover stitch machines. By using various special feet or attachments, the range of processing techniques can be extended enormously. Many operations are simplified or made possible in the first place – with results that are impressive. Belt loop folders, double and single fold bias binders or plain hemmer – depending on the application and sewing project, folding and guiding aids are available that are tailored to fabrics and their properties with only one goal in mind: The pure joy of sewing!
